The Rivers State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into a viral social media report and video allegedly showing suspected cultists celebrating the renovation of the Abuloma Police Outpost in Port Harcourt.
According to a report by Globalvoice, the incident has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the renovation, the identity of those involved, and whether established police procedures were followed in accepting community support for the facility.
The video reportedly shows suspected cultists visiting the outpost on Thursday to celebrate the completion of the renovation. However, the police have yet to establish the full circumstances surrounding the reported visit, and the allegations remain subject to investigation.
In response, the Police Command's spokesperson, ASP Blessing Agabe, said the command strongly condemned any action capable of undermining the integrity, professionalism, and public image of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has reportedly ordered the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Abuloma Division and the officer overseeing the outpost to be queried and removed from their duties pending the outcome of the investigation.
The directive signals an effort by the command to establish whether any officers breached police regulations or failed to exercise appropriate oversight in connection with the incident.
While the police acknowledged that community contributions toward improving police facilities were welcome, the command stressed that such support must comply with established procedures and regulations.
Key questions remain unanswered: Who financed and carried out the renovation? Were the identities and intentions of those involved properly verified? And did any police personnel authorize or participate in the reported celebration?
The outcome of the investigation is expected to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether any officers or other individuals should face disciplinary or legal consequences.
For now, the Rivers State Police Command has ordered an investigation, but the allegations against those reportedly involved have not been conclusively established.
