Rauf Aregbesola, National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has launched an attack on President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing its Renewed Hope Agenda as a scam.

Mr Aregbesola, a former ally of Mr Tinubu, made the remarks on Tuesday at the ADC’s national convention held in Abuja, where he slammed the current All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration for failing to translate its campaign promises into tangible improvements.

He said that although the administration of Mr Tinubu had promised Nigerians Renewed Hope years ago, it is still repeating the same slogan three years into its tenure without delivering on its promises.

“Four years ago, this government promised Nigerians renewed hope, now three years into its four-year term or tenure. It’s still promising renewed hope, but when exactly will his hope come into fruition?

“The answer is simple. It is a scam. If allowed, this regime will continue chanting renewed hope till eternity. We have the duty to stop these scammers from retaining power,” he said.

Mr Aregbesola also criticised Mr Tinubu for failing to deliver on his mandate to improve th country’s electricity, stressing that Nigerians are yet to see meaningful results nearly three years into his tenure.

The former Osun governor further alleged that key indicators of national development have worsened under the current administration, citing rising poverty levels, insecurity, and increasing numbers of out-of-school children across the country.

According to him, the situation has further reflected failure in the education sector under the current administration.

“Ordinarily, having failed with such promise and failed woefully, an honest president should simply step down and not seek re-election.

“Rather, what we are experiencing is the most desperate attempt by a candidate in Nigeria’s electoral history to retain power at all costs, if it means bringing down the entire democratic system,” he added.

Mr Aregbesola’s latest outburst comes amid the leadership crisis rocking the ADC, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) derecognising the David Mark-led executive and the political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
