Senator representing Sokoto East Senatorial District, Ibrahim Lamido, has announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing worsening insecurity and hardship in his constituency.

The lawmaker announced his resignation in a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday, stating that the decision takes immediate effect.

“I hereby resign from the APC with immediate effect,” Mr Lamido said.

He stated that his decision was driven by the party’s inability to adequately address insecurity and protect lives in his constituency.

“My decision is based on the party’s failure to safeguard the people I represent and the hardship currently being faced by them,” Mr Lamido added.

Sokoto State is among the states in Nigeria’s North-West region grappling with persistent insecurity, including kidnapping and killings.
