The Imo State Police Command has launched investigation into the murder of four workers of Lee Engineering Company, an oil company in Imo State on Monday, August 16.

 

The workers were shot dead on Etekwuru-Assa Road in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of the state by unidentified gunmen.

 

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Hussaini disclosed this while addressing newsmen in Owerri, the state capital.

 

Hussaini said that he had deployed operatives of the command to the area with a view to arresting the culprits and bringing them to book.

 

The CP vowed that the bandits terrorizing the state would be flushed out under his watch.

 

Hussaini said, “I have deployed a high-powered team to the area with a view to gathering intelligence and arresting the culprits.

 

“Those disturbing the peace of the state would be made to face the full wrath of the law.”

 

The CP promised to respect the rule of law and to discipline police operatives who indulged in all kinds of human rights abuses.

 

According to him; “Imo command under my watch shall take issues of human rights seriously.

 

“To this end, I want to inform Imo people that any officer who infringes on the rights of the members of the public will have me to contend with.

 

“In view of this, I implore members of the public to avail themselves the use of the X-Squad and the Public Complaints Bureau domiciled in the office of the Public Relations Officer to report any unethical or unprofessional conduct of police officers or any other genuine grievances.

 

“Sequel to the above therefore, I wish to inform Imolites that we shall tackle crime vigorously and I make bold to say that there will be no hiding place for criminals in Imo state.”

 

Unknown gunmen ambushed oil workers in Assa Community while on their way to the company’s oil plant and shot dead four of the workers.

 

They also inflicted bullet wounds on other workers, who are at present receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
