The Ghana Football Association has sacked Black Stars head coach Otto Addo 72 days before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup following the country’s poor performance in the current international break.
“The Ghana Football Association has parted ways with the Head Coach of the senior men’s national team (Black Stars), Otto Addo, effective immediately,” the national football governing body said in a statement on Tuesday.
Mr Addo’s dismissal came hours after Ghana lost 2-1 to Germany at the MHP Arena in Stuttgart on Monday in their second friendly match of the international break.
Three days earlier, Ghana had suffered a humiliating 5-1 loss to Austria in Vienna, prompting many Ghanaian fans to call for a managerial change ahead of the World Cup starting later in June.
“The Association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours. The GFA will communicate the new technical direction of the Black Stars in due course,” the GFA added.
The Black Stars are drawn in Group L of the World Cup alongside England, Croatia and Panama. They are scheduled to play their group games in the United States and Canada.
