SYMFONI TV has reported that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has established a clear deadline for the submission of the state's budget. This comes after the failure to re-present the 2025 budget, and Fubara has demanded accountability and prompt action from the relevant authorities
In the meantime, the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has been given the opportunity to appear before the House of Assembly once again. This opportunity was granted by the House of Assembly of Rivers State. This action comes after he had previously failed to behave in this manner, despite numerous requests.
During a heated session, a lawmaker addressed the assembly and pleaded for patience and understanding in regard to the circumstances surrounding the absence of the RSIEC Chairman. A lawmaker made the following statement to the Speaker: "Let us give him one more chance, Mr. Speaker," and continued, "I want to lend my voice to what my dear colleagues have said. Regarding this matter, I would like to state that this is the final time that we should discuss it. I beseech my coworkers to grant him a mere 72 hours, and I insist that they be granted it. If he does not show up by Monday, then the gods won't be held responsible for his absence.
The frustration of the assembly, as well as its determination to find a solution to the problem, is reflected in the assertion that this final grace period should be granted. In light of the fact that time is running out, the legislators have made it abundantly clear that any further delays will no longer be tolerated. The failure of the chairman to comply with the new deadline could result in severe consequences, which could potentially undermine public trust in the RSIEC as well as the political system as a whole that is more comprehensive.
