Human rights organisation, Amnesty International, has decried the spate of killings in the country in recent days.

It also said that President Bola Tinubu’s govt lacked effective plan to tackle the security challenges.

In a statement on Saturday, Amnesty International lamented what it described as incessant killings and failure of the authorities to apprehend and bring the perpetrators to justice.

It said, “Twenty days into February, at least 323 people have been killed in different attacks on rural communities in Benue, Katsina, Kwara, Kebbi, Niger and Zamfara states.”

The human rights organisation said, “The rising death toll clearly shows that President Bola Tinubu and his government have no effective plan for ending years of atrocities by armed groups and gunmen that have killed thousands of people.”

Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, did not pick calls made to his mobile for comments on Amnesty International’s claim. 

A WhatsApp message sent to Mr Onanuga’s mobile on Saturday had yet to be replied as of the time this report was filed.
